What You Can Expect From Your Advocate
As an independent service that is free from any conflict of interest, our advocates work solely on your behalf. We make sure your voice is heard, your rights are upheld, and you can access the services you need to live your life the way you want to.
We will listen without judgement, and respect your decisions.
We will support you to find clear and accurate information.
We will help you to explore your options and what steps you need to take next.
We will work alongside you to help you have your voice heard and your needs recognised.
We will encourage and support you to advocate for yourself and take control of the decisions that affect your life.
We can advise employers, educational providers and medical professionals about your right to reasonable adjustments under the Equality Act 2010.
We can support you to write letters and emails, prepare for meetings, and, where appropriate, attend meetings with you.
We can connect you with specialist help, such as legal, housing and benefits advisors, to ensure you have equitable access to employment, education and health services.
We can link you with peer support and community groups.
We can offer information and guidance to your family to help them better understand and support you.

Health & Inclusion Advocacy
Our free Health & Inclusion Advocacy service supports adults based in Colchester and Tendring who don’t have access to stable or suitable housing, including people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
SUMMIT will work alongside you to address health inequalities and provide practical help with everyday challenges, such as contacting statutory services, completing online forms, and understanding what support is available. By working closely with local partners, we help people build confidence, feel included and empowered, and gain the knowledge and skills they need to access healthcare and other essential public services.
