Role: Peer Support Worker (PSW)

Location: NE Essex

Contract type: Full-time – Fixed term (with potential to extend)

Starting salary: £27,300 – £29,250 per annum (depending on experience)

Closing date: Friday 15th May 2026

Are you passionate about supporting others and making a real difference? Do you have lived experience of mental ill health and a desire to use this to empower others? If so, we’d love to hear from you.

We are seeking a compassionate and confident communicator to join our team. In this role, you will provide formalised peer support and practical assistance to individuals living with mental ill health. By drawing on your own lived experience of recovery, you will help people regain confidence, build independence, and regain control of their lives. No two days will be the same as you work directly with people across North East Essex to live their lives, the way they wish to.

You will be…

  • Empathetic, resourceful and a motivated team player.

  • Able to work alone, within a team, and in partnership with clients and professionals.

  • Committed to protecting the rights of some of the most vulnerable people in society.

  • Computer literate, great at record keeping, and have good time management skills.

  • Be a good communicator.

  • Experienced in working with vulnerable people.

  • Have an understanding of the barriers facing people with mental ill health.

  • Know about local services and support available that could be helpful.

  • Expected to bring a lived experience perspective to the role.

It would be great if you…

  • Are looking for a full-time position.

  • Love working in a fast-paced environment where you get to respond proactively.

  • Have experience working with and supporting vulnerable adults, and hold a relevant health and social care qualification. This is desirable but not essential, as training will be provided.

  • Have a full driving licence.
